Chelsea fans have claimed that Ian Maatsen’s career at the club ‘is over’ after the full-back’s recent actions on social media.
The Blues are still recovering from their disappointing 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Wednesday night, where Scott McTominay’s brace sealed a win for the hosts.
Chelsea looked as though they might get back into the match when Cole Palmer drew them level in the first-half but, for the Blues, it wasn’t to be.
Most of Manchester United’s players took to social media to revel in the victory, including midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
The Moroccan international thanked fans with an Instagram post but would’ve been surprised to see one of Chelsea’s travelling players also in his comment section.

Maatsen left a comment, which has now been deleted, on Sofyan Amrabat’s Instagram post – despite his side, Chelsea, falling to defeat against Amrabat’s Manchester United

Amrabat’s post read: Great spirit and great performance! Thanks for the amazing support’.
Surprisingly, Chelsea’s Maatsen initially commented a ‘fire emoji’ and a ‘saluting emoji’ in response to Amrabat’s post, before swiftly deleting it.
It lead to a number of Chelsea fans lambasting the former Burnley loanee and claiming that his days at the club are numbered.
One account posted: ‘Safe to say Ian Maatsen’s career at Chelsea is now over.’
‘Ian Maatsen commenting on a post made by Sofyan Amrabat about United winning yesterday. Absolute joke’, another user said.
‘It must be a mistake from Ian Maatsen or his social media team, surely, as I’m hoping players read the room in situations like this and stay away from stuff like this,’ one user wrote.
Maatsen’s current contract at Stamford Bridge was set to expire at the end of the season but, according to the Evening Standard, the Blues ‘quietly’ activated a club-option to extend it by 12 months in October.
As Mail Sport revealed in September, Chelsea had accepted a deal that would have seen the full back join Burnley on loan with an obligation for them to buy him for £13.5m including add-ons.
However, Maatsen wanted to stay at the club and was prepared to turn down the chance to join the Clarets.
Fans were quick to lament Maatsen’s decision and claim that his career ‘is now over’
Maatsen didn’t play a single minute of the match, despite seeming as though he was about to be introduced into the game by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Just moments before United restored their lead in the second-half, cameras cut to show Maatsen stripping down and preparing to come on.
However, after McTominay headed home from close range in the 69th minute, Pochettino opted to send the full-back back to the bench.
Maatsen will be hoping he gets an opportunity to shine on the pitch when Chelsea travel to Everton on Sunday afternoon.
