Five crazy F1 dating rumours after Hamilton fuelled Shakira talk with Miami meal

Lewis Hamilton reveals the Queen told him off at the Royal lunch

Lewis Hamilton was recently spotted enjoying dinner with Colombian popstar Shakira after the Miami Grand Prix in recent weeks, sparking speculation the seven-time world champion is dating the Hips Don’t Lie singer. The 38-year-old has been quiet about his private life since splitting from Nicole Scherzinger in 2015, but has fuelled talk after dinner with newly-single Shakira.

‘Gentleman’ Hamilton reportedly picked Shakira up from her luxury pad to dinner in Miami, but it may just be one of the oldest tricks in the book as far as dating goes.

It was not only Hamilton who has been linked with a global popstar in recent months. Speculation swirled around that Fernando Alonso and Taylor Swift had started dating when they broke up with their respective former partners at the same time.

However, despite the 41-year-old’s best efforts to tease his fans, it soon became clear that Swift’s mystery man was The 1975’s Matt Healy. Express Sport looks at four other times F1 stars found themselves involved with big-name celebrities.

Eddie Irvine and Kelly Brook

Irvine competed in F1 between 1993 and 2002, competing for Jordan, Ferrari and Jaguar. He finished runner-up in the 1999 Drivers’ Championship while with the Scuderia. However, he had less success in the dating world after bagging a date with glamour model Kelly Brook.

Irvine was a renowned playboy, having been linked with Pamela Anderson and Rachel Hunter in the past. And when he approached Brook, who was 18 at the time, she felt she couldn’t turn him down after meeting at Silverstone: “I stood next to him and smiled for the camera, and that was that. But obviously he asked someone who I was and later called me,” she said.

In her autobiography ‘Close Up’ published in 2014, Brook described her date with Irvine as ‘the most awkward and uncomfortable’ date of her life. They dined at Nobu restaurant but the date didn’t go as planned, even though Brook ended up going back to his hotel room for a “kiss and a fumble”.

“I was just freaked out,” the 42-year-old added. “I was living at home with my mum and dad, and knew nothing of private jets, let alone if you could land one at Rochester Airport. I didn’t even know of a restaurant in Rochester where we could have had dinner, even if he did manage to land the jet. All I was thinking was, ‘I’d better look in the Yellow Pages.’ I had no game, I wasn’t cool.”

Jenson Button and Rose MacGowan

As a former world champion, it doesn’t take much to know who Button is – especially in the UK.

But at some point early in his F1 career, Button had to make sure people knew who he was – and his brief rumoured fling with McGowan certainly raised some eyebrows.

It is believed Button and McGowan, famous for her role in TV series Charmed amongst other films in the 90s, had met at the glitzy Monaco Grand Prix in 2005 and engaged in a casual relationship when they met again in July.

However, things didn’t last long between the pair and they went their separate ways, with Button first marrying Jessica Michibata and now Brittny Ward.

Lando Norris and Margot Robbie

In addressing the rumours about Alonso and Swift, Norris clearly wasn’t having any of it. To prove it, he decided to talk freely about his ‘conversations’ with Hollywood star Margot Robbie, although it was clear it was a tongue-in-cheek remark.

“Taylor Swift and Alonso? Is that even real?” Norris was asked by his friend Max Fewtrell before replying bluntly: “No”. The friend then broke this news to the stream. He said, “Not real. I don’t think guys! Sorry to break it to you.”

He later said to his friend on the stream: “There’s also me and Margot Robbie. Yeah. We’ve been chatting for a while now.”

After being asked about her marital status, Norris’ cheeky fib was rooted out for being false. “Isn’t she like, married?” he was asked and eventually, he confessed with a hilarious claim: “Yeah but like, you know, it’s off the books, you know what I mean?”

Lewis Hamilton and Danni Minogue

What do Nicole Scherzinger, Shakira and Minogue all have in common beyond the obvious attraction and worldwide status? The trio are all singers.

Hamilton has spoken at length about his passion for composing music on his home studio, so it feels like a natural move to date some of the world’s most recognised popstars.

But it didn’t materialise with Minogue after they met in the paddock at the Australian Grand Prix and began texting each other, as the Australian singer explains.

“I don’t fancy him, no,” she said. “We met at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne and we’ve been texting each other and said we’d meet up in Monaco for the Grand Prix there. So if that’s a date, then we’re going on a date.”
