NFL teams have offered their public support to Israel as bloody conflict rages in the Middle East following surprise attacks by Hamas over the weekend.
More than 700 people have been killed in Israel since shootings and kidnappings by the Palestinian group began on Saturday. Gaza, meanwhile, has seen more than 500 deaths after Israel started striking the area.
Several US citizens are said to be among the dead in what has been described as the Jewish state’s ‘worst day in history’. President Joe Biden has insisted his administration’s support for Israel is ‘rock solid and unwavering,’ while the Empire State Building was lit up in blue and white in solidarity.
Now, the NFL and several teams have released statements, condemning the attacks by Hamas and offering their support to the people of Israel.
‘The NFL mourns the loss of innocent lives in Israel and strongly condemns all forms of terrorism,’ the league wrote on social media on Monday.

‘The depravity of these acts is beyond comprehension, and we grieve with the families of those killed, injured and still missing. We pray for peace and will alwyas stand against the evils of hate.’
The Washington Commanders said in a statement: ‘We stand with the people of Israel and join them in mourning the hundreds of innocent lives lost to terrorism at the hands of Hamas.’
The Miami Dolphins said on social media: ‘We condemn these acts of terrorism against Israel and pray for those suffering. We stand in support of the people of Israel.’
Ahead of the Vikings’ defeat by the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, meanwhile, the Wilf Family Ownership Group released a statement on behalf of Minnesota.
‘The Hamas attacks on Israel are horrific and senseless. Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent civilians and all those impacted by this terrorism,’ it read.

‘Israel has the right to defend itself and its people. Full stop,’ Biden said in a statement.
‘There’s never a justification for terrorist attacks. And my administration’s support for Israel security is rock solid and unwavering.’
