Wrestler weighing 150kg once called out Mike Tyson – and pair could still fight

Mike Tyson was once called out by 150kg wrestling and kickboxing giant Bob Sapp – who could be a potential opponent for the heavyweight legend in his next comeback bout.

Tyson revealed during an appearance at the Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant fight last Saturday that he will be returning to the ring in February.

The 55-year-old, widely considered one of the best heavyweights in boxing history, laced up the gloves for the first time in 14 years when he took on Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition contest last November.

And he is now eager to prove that the return was not a flash in the pan, setting his sights on another exhibition early next year.

YouTuber turned boxer Logan Paul has emerged as a potential opponent, although the youngster recently admitted he is sceptical about trying to do damage to an "old man" almost 30 years his senior.

But if Paul decides against fighting Tyson, the latter could turn his attention to a showdown with Sapp – which has been 18 years in the making.

'Iron' Mike appeared set to face the self-proclaimed 'Beast' back in 2003, entering the ring immediately after his kickboxing victory over Kimo Leopoldo to promote a potential fight.

Sapp, who brutally dispatched of Leopoldo within two rounds in Las Vegas, was made aware of Tyson's presence at ringside and urged him to join him inside the squared circle after his win.

But when he accepted the request and stepped through the ropes, the 326lbs kickboxer sprinted towards him and tried to ignite a brawl.

Tyson later insisted he was prepared to battle it out with Sapp that very night if they abided by the Queensberry rules of boxing, but in the end a clash between the pair failed to materialise entirely.

The former undisputed heavyweight champion came very close to finally meeting him last year, only to snub a bout with his old adversary for the exhibition with Jones in November.

Thus, Sapp could be the perfect opponent for Tyson in February if Paul has no interest in facing him.

The 48-year-old, who also enjoyed a brief career in the NFL with the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings, spent the majority of his MMA and kickboxing days out in Japan, racking up 24 victories in 64 contests.
