Tyson Fury will fight Usyk – but tells Rio Ferdinand it depends on the money

Tyson Fury has vowed to get it on with Oleksandr Usyk – but only if the money’s right.

The heavyweight world champions looked set to finally meet this year, with contracts even being exchanged over an April date at Wembley Stadium. However, talks broke down at the 11th hour over several issues, including the purse split and a rematch clause.

As a result, Usyk went on to fight, and beat, Daniel Dubois in Poland while Fury will face MMA legend Francis Ngannou at the end of October. The saga has left boxing fans incredibly frustrated, but Fury has offered hope he could finally face the Ukrainian great.

However, he told former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand that money remains the biggest obstacle. On the Rio Meets Tyson programme, which will air on TNT Sports, Fury took a cheap shot at Usyk, calling him an “ugly b***** with gappy teeth”.

“The fans want it [Usyk vs Fury], if the money's there, we'll do it,” said Fury. “Why in the world would I want to fight him for no money? He's got zero personality, he’s an ugly b***** with gappy teeth, and he's half the size of me.

“So it's all to gain for him and nothing to gain for me. If I beat him it's like 'oh well he beat a middleweight'. If he beats me, he beat legendary Tyson Fury, for no money.

“He was offered the fight at Wembley in April. A lot of money. And they didn't take it, they ran away, looking for more money.

The time for talking is almost over as KSI and Tommy Fury will bury their rivarly once and for all as they face off in Manchester on Saturday, October 14th. Logan Paul will also be fighting at the event in front of what is expected to be a sell-out crowd.

“It is what it is. I understand everyone wants the most money possible – I do. This is prize fighting, we all want the biggest bag, and no matter what people say 'it's about the belts, it's about my record, my legacy'. No. It's all about getting paid and getting l***. And that's it.”

Tyson said he had little interest in fighting Anthony Joshua now, adding: "AJ's been beat now. I was interested when he was a virgin. It was a test. We want big fights, this that and the other, but 'who are you? You don't have any belts anymore. You don't have anything to give'."
