‘I want a red panty night!’: Conor McGregor ‘accepts’ bizarre celebrity boxing match with 58-year-old UFC legend Mark Coleman in now-deleted call out, but veteran insists ‘it has to be in boxing because I would SMASH you in MMA’

  • Coleman hasn’t fought since 2010 but returns to the ring in October

Conor McGregor has ‘accepted’ a celebrity boxing match with 58-year-old UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman.

MMA legend Coleman has had a stellar career but hasn’t fought since 2010.

In 1997, he became the inaugural UFC heavyweight champion by submitting Dan Severn at UFC 12 and is also a two-time UFC super fight tournament winner (UFC 10 and UFC 11).

But despite being well past his sell by date, The Hammer could end up in the ring with McGregor this year.

Coleman has signed a deal with Celebrity Boxing for a fight in October and McGregor has welcomed the idea of being his first opponent.

‘Challenge accepted!’ wrote McGregor in a now-deleted tweet underneath a post announcing Coleman would be fighting at the back end of the year.

Coleman saw the tweet before it was deleted and responded with a video call out posted to Instagram. ‘Hey Conor McGregor I’m a big fan,’ he said.

‘Thank you for calling me out! It has to be in boxing because I would smash you in MMA you know that. Boxing you are probably going to lose a decision, but I want a red panty night.’

It is unlikely McGregor will have time to fit the exhibition contest into his busy schedule given he is currently preparing for a return to the Octagon against Chandler later this year.

The rivals have just wrapped up filming for the latest season of the Ultimate Fighter which pits them off as coaches before they throw down for real in the UFC.

No date or venue has been disclosed as of yet although McGregor recently assured fans that all will be revealed on the show.

The Irishman has been out of action since breaking his leg in his last outing against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 back in July 2021.

He is now fully recovered and expected to re-enter the USADA drug testing pool in the coming weeks.
