Katie Taylor’s nasty cut to eye spotted as Laura Woods shares post-fight snap

Katie Taylor has the scars to show from her epic win over Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden.

Taylor, 35, and her Puerto Rican rival put on a fight for the ages, with the iconic Irish boxer ultimately taking a split decision. She got the verdict on two cards, by 97-93 and 96-93 margins, with one judge scoring it 96-94 to Serrano.

In reality, the call could have gone either way as both performed intensely for 10 rounds. It was Serrano, 33, who dictated the early stages before Taylor took control, cutting her rival in the penultimate round before an epic finale which saw the pair stand toe-to-toe and throw heavy punches for the final minute.

Jake Paul, who helped promote Serrano, argued afterwards his fighter had been 'robbed' while Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn, who was in Taylor's camp, hinted at a second bout in Ireland. Also present in New York was talkSPORT presenter Laura Woods, who shared a picture of herself with the victor afterwards.

And the Instagram snap showed the intensity of the battle that Taylor had been in, with the star sporting a nasty cut above her right eye. She also had a bruise above her left eye, but was at least able to raise a smile as she posed with Woods – a two-time British Sports Presenter of the Year winner.

And the post went down well online, with another presenter, Alison Bender, writing: "Oh wow. Epic. What a fight and what a moment for Women’s sport ." Former Premiership footballer Ashley Williams simply added 'on fire' emojis.

The boxing_worldwide1 account echoed the sentiments of many by writing: "What an incredible fight between two absolute warriors! An instant classic battle in the biggest fight in female boxing history at a packed MSG! Unreal!! Congrats to the undisputed champ Katie Taylor – legend!"

For her part, straight after her win, Taylor immediately signalled her intention to give Serrano a rematch: "Absolutely. We have to do this again," she told reporters, when asked about the possibility of another bout.

"It was an absolute war for 10 rounds. I'm grateful to be in this position and sell out Madison Square Garden. Look what we've just done. I said before that when you think Madison Square Garden, you think Muhammad Ali v Joe Frazier, but now everyone will be thinking of Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano."
