Fury vs Ngannou coverage suffers nightmare as TNT forced to apologise

TNT Sports were forced to apologise after getting off to the worst possible start to their Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou coverage. Following an excellent undercard opener between Carlos Takam and Martin Bakole, the sports programming network ran into technical difficulties that left fans staring at a break in transmission message for over twenty minutes.

The blockbuster showdown takes place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia tonight to much fanfare. But punters were left outraged after their programme was interrupted almost immediately.

As Laura Woods, Carl Frampton and Dan Hardy dissected Bakole’s impressive fourth-round stoppage victory over Takam, screens went grey before crossing to a message from TNT Sports. “We apologise for the break in transmission and hope to correct the fault shortly,” an onscreen prompt read.

According to the Daily Mirror, the problem was due to a power surge in the venue unrelated to any of the broadcasters carrying the fight. After almost 25 minutes of waiting, TNT’s coverage restarted as Woods apologised to viewers for the technical fault.

“A big apology from us out here in Riyadh we had technical issues so you lost pictures for a little while, I know that must have been frustrating,” she said. “But the good news we are back, we all know what it is all about so it won’t happen again. And the even better news is you haven’t missed a minute of boxing so don’t worry about that.”

However, there were more technical issues as Moses Itauma made his way to the ring to fight Hungarian heavyweight Istvan Bernath. The screen repeatedly switched on and off while the sound went down for Itauma’s ring walk. Fans came out in their droves to complain about the fault while some demanded a refund for their £21.95 PPV fee.

One fan (@ashmac2022) quipped: Great start to the @Tyson_Fury v @francis_ngannou fight from @tntsports,” accompanied by an image of the break in transmission message. A second (@Nuts4Secret) wrote: “@tntsports. I hope you are going to refund the Fury vs Ngannou fight. First it was cut off for ages and then there was no sound and now the stream is behind the commentary!”

A third (@harvsimms19) posted: “What a f***** joke!!!!! people paying for Fury ppv and it’s not even able to be viewed due to a fault.”
