Nigerian light-heavyweight might have taken his professional record to 11-0 with a KO win over Basil – but boxing fans have been left bemused by the bizarre finish. Egowa, 27, took on his rival at an outdoor venue in his home country, continuing the trend of every one of his fights so far taking place in Africa.
But the orthodox fighter didn’t exactly have to land a telling blow to secure victory. In an early exchange, the undefeated Egowa appeared to be keeping his distance, throwing a couple of jabs before his opponent went for jugular.
Ozigwe threw a wild roundhouse right, which missed Egowa by some distance. In fact, it was the man on the attack who actually ended up flat on his back, having been thrown off balance by his ambitious punch and stumbled to the canvas.
An unperturbed Egowa then stood there with his hands behind his back, seemingly expecting the action to resume quickly. Instead, Ozigwe remained down, and was counted out by the referee who then duly called for the bell.

A video was shared on Twitter by IFL TV, along with the caption: “Meanwhile in Nigeria… Richard Egowa has continued his unbeaten start to his professional career with his 11th straight stoppage. Make what you want of this.”
The footage was met by a mix of amusement and disbelief from fans, with boxing writer Johnny Willis posting: “Gonna be a problem in the division if he’s doing that to people in his 11th fight.” Professional Muay Thai fighter Liam Harrison added: “KO of the year contender right there.”

However, it could be argued the scene was inkeeping with many of the other bizarre stories to emerge from the boxing world of late. On Sunday in Dubai, Tommy Fury’s exhibition fight against Rolly Lambert was tainted by chaos when Jake Paul took over co-commentary.
After a mediocre contest, Fury then confronted the YouTuber in an angry exchange. His dad John then got involved, ripping off his top and shadow boxing as the event descended into farce.
