David Haye has ‘ridiculous rolls’ but vows to go from ‘fat to fit in weeks’

David Haye has set himself an eight-week challenge to lose 12.5 per cent of his body fat in a bid to prove that his toned shape is not due to genetics.

The former heavyweight and cruiserweight boxing world champion stopped exercising as part of an experiment. Instead he ate desserts and drank alcohol for three months 'like everybody else', resulting in him putting on weight and having 'ridiculous rolls of fat'.

As part of an experiment, the Hayemarker wanted to prove that his toned body shape could be achieved on five hours of exercise a week. Posting a video of himself exercising before the challenge started on Instagram, Haye weighed in at 15st 7lb with 10% body fat.

"I try to explain to people that I don't train that hard," said Haye in the post. "I do four or five hours of exercise per week which is enough to maintain this body shape.

"They seem to think it's a genetic thing but I'm saying no it's about the lifestyle that I lead."

Three months after stopping exercise, as well as eating desserts and drinking alcohol, Haye weighs 16st 7lb and has body fat of 22.5% and says his stomach pops out when he relaxes.

"I've turned into a mere mortal," added Haye. "I've got ridiculous rolls of fat on the side. I was just doing what everybody was doing. I'm not over eating, I was eating desserts and just drinking alcohol with everybody else.

"I've got all this cellulite and horrible stuff to the side. My core has just relaxed and it's not tight."

Due to his additional body weight, Haye said he now no longer needed to eat anything in the mornings due to his excess fat and stored energy. One of the exercises Haye suggested was climbing stairs in a block of flats.

The former world champion climbed 18 floors of stair four times which he claimed took 30 minutes before doing another 30 minutes on an exercise bike.

The 42-year-old retired from professional boxing after losing to Tony Bellew for the second time four years ago but stays in top shape. The Hayemaker returned to the ring for an exhibition bout against friend Joe Fournier last year in Hollywood winning the eight-round fight by unanimous decision.
