Coronavirus does not scare UFC champ Israel Adesayna because he’s ‘immune’
UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has claimed he is immune from the coronavirus ahead of his title defence against Yoel Romero this weekend.
Adesanya’s bout with Romero will headline the UFC 248 event which will take place in Las Vegas, with women’s strawweight champion Zhang Weili defending her belt against Joanna Jedrzecjczyk in the featured bout on the undercard.
Zhang is China’s first ever UFC titleholder and her preparation for her first title defence was thrown into chaos when the disease began to wreak havoc across her home country.
The 30-year-old was forced to move her training camp, first to Thailand and then Abu Dhabi before making the trip to Vegas for fight week.

Despite the huge affect it has had on Zhang’s preparation for UFC 248, it is business as usual for headliner Adesanya.
“How many people died from the coronavirus so far?” he replied when asked about the outbreak. “How many people have had the common cold?
“There’s this hype about corona, and I had my face mask on at the airport, but at the end of the day, I’ve had malaria eight times.

“My genetics is different, and I’m not above nature, don’t get me wrong. I don’t subject to that. I don’t see myself getting affected by that.
Adesanya also addressed suggestions that he was suffering with a staph infection after images emerged of the champion with a sore on his arm which fans were concerned could be staph.
“You guys thought I had staph this week,” Adesanya said.
“I’ve never had staph in my life. Knock on wood, I never will. It was nothing. There’s no fluid. I don’t know what staph feels like.
“Some people have had it, where I’m from. But I’ve never had it, and I never will, knock on wood. And malaria is the biggest killer in the world, isn’t it?
“So, this whole corona shit – f***ing knock on wood, I hope I don’t get it now talking s*** about corona.”
