Conor McGregor gives promising update on his fighting return at Tyson Fury event

Conor McGregor has given fans a promising update on his fighting return.

The MMA legend was in Saudi Arabia to watch Tyson Fury’s crossover boxing clash with fellow former UFC champion Francis Ngannou on Saturday night. McGregor himself has not stepped inside the octagon since suffering a gruelling leg break against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

And the 35-year-old finally offered his loyal supporters some promising news regarding his comeback. Having spent the last two years occupied with an acting role in upcoming Hollywood movie ‘Roadhouse' and the launch of his own Forged Irish Stout, The Notorious claimed he will return to his fighting roots in April.

He told TNT Sports: “I’m in a great place, my body’s fully healed. Hopefully April [is when I return]. I would have loved to come back in December but I want to be honest to my fans.

“April’s a lovely run-up for me. I’m in a good spot. I’ve been training. I deserve it, it’s almost three years that I’ve been kept from my way of living.”

Asked what advice he’d give Ngannou ahead of facing the unbeaten Fury, McGregor said: “It’s a tough ask. Tyson is light, he’s fast, he also has the size. I’d say try and crack him while he’s cold. Make it a dogfight.”

McGregor this week officially returned to USADA's testing pool, having provided his first samples to the anti-doping body for over two years. It is understood re-entering the testing pool is an important part of his preparations ahead of a UFC return.

MMA stars must be in the USADA testing pool for a period of six months as per regulations before a fight. McGregor provided three samples to USADA during his testing session, allegedly on his yacht.

“I was tested two separate times yesterday, and within an hour of each other. Blood and urine,” he wrote on X earlier this month.
