Tennis legend Todd Woodbridge will be hoping there is no repeat of his 2012 clanger when this year's Australian Open gets underway.

Woodbridge, 51, enjoyed an incredible doubles career, winning 22 Grand Slams in both men's and mixed events, and is regarded by many as one of the finest players of the game. He became a pundit after calling time on his career and has worked for a number of TV channels Down Under.

Back in 2012, Woodbridge was working for Channel 7 on a warm-up event in Sydney for the Australian Open when he sent a text message to fellow player Rennae Stubbs about Kim Clijsters.

Woodbridge made the assumption that defending champion Clijsters was expecting another child, simply because "she looks really grumpy and her boobs are bigger".

Unfortunately for the ex-player, Stubbs proved women stick together and informed Clijsters of exactly what he said by showing her the text.

Fast-forward a couple of weeks and Woodbridge and Clijsters came face-to-face during a live TV interview after her victory over Carla Suarez Navarro on Centre Court at the Rod Laver Arena.

And the Belgian decided to get her own back by pulling up Woodbridge, telling him: "By the way, Rennae showed me a text message you wrote about me in Sydney. You thought I was pregnant!"

Clijsters, who managed to see the funny side, reeled off the details of the text to leave Woodbridge red-faced and the crowd in hysterics – before confirming she was not expecting.

An embarrassed Woodbridge then retorted: "Well that is the end of my TV career. I think on that note we should let you get inside!"

Clijsters would go on to lose in the semi-final in Melbourne in 2012 while Woodbridge will be back this year, working as an analyst for Channel 9.
